In a world where footballers often keep their future plans shrouded in mystery, Leroy Sané’s candid declaration is a breath of fresh air. The Bayern Munich winger has made it crystal clear: he’s committed to staying with the Bavarian giants.
This comes amidst a whirlwind of contract negotiations at Bayern. The club is pulling out all the stops to secure Alphonso Davies’ future, reportedly offering Joshua Kimmich the captaincy to entice him to extend beyond 2025, and closing in on a new deal for veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Yet, curiously, there’s been little chatter about renewing Sané’s contract, which is set to expire in June 2025.
Recent reports suggest the club wants to see more consistent performances from the German international before committing to new terms. However, Sané remains undeterred and optimistic.
After a stellar showing in Bayern’s 5-1 demolition of RB Leipzig, where he found the back of the net, Sané addressed his future. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“Max Eberl said a lot about that, and I also gave my opinion. Things are going well, and we’ll see. I just want to perform now and help us win our games.”
When pressed on whether he wants to stay, Sané didn’t hesitate:
“Yes!”
In a period where stars like Davies and Kimmich seem to be weighing their options, Sané’s earnest desire to remain at Bayern is a refreshing and endearing sentiment. If he continues to deliver performances like the one against Leipzig, there’s every reason to believe the club will reciprocate his commitment with a contract extension.
