Tony Book, an iconic figure in Manchester City’s history, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 90. Fondly referred to as "Mr. Manchester City," Book’s remarkable journey from working as a bricklayer in Bath to achieving legendary status at the club is a testament to his dedication and leadership.

Book joined Manchester City at the age of 32 and quickly made his mark, captaining the team to major triumphs. These included the First Division title in 1968, the FA Cup in 1969, and a double victory in 1970 with the League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup. During his managerial stint from 1974 to 1979, he led the team to another League Cup victory in 1976.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak honored Book’s contributions, stating, “For nearly six decades, Tony played a vital role in shaping Manchester City... His memory will endure among our fans as someone who laid the groundwork for the club's extraordinary achievements.”

Supporters have shared heartfelt tributes and memories through an online condolence book created by the club. Many have praised his humility, leadership qualities, and the immense impact he had on the team’s history.

In his honor, flags at the Etihad Stadium and City Football Academy have been lowered to half-mast. Tony Book’s enduring legacy continues to inspire the Manchester City family and football enthusiasts worldwide.
