Arsenal’s Valiant Effort Falls Short in Milan

Arsenal’s impressive Champions League form took a hit on Wednesday with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro. A controversial penalty call just before half-time saw Mikel Merino penalized for an alleged handball, despite having little opportunity to avoid contact with the ball. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed frustration over the decision, as well as another missed penalty call when Inter’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer appeared to make contact with Merino during a contested cross.

Arteta called for greater consistency in officiating, stating, “If you give a penalty for that handball, then you have to give one when he’s punched in the head.” The loss compounds Arsenal’s recent struggles, as they are now winless in three Premier League games and trail leaders Liverpool by seven points. Despite the challenges, the Gunners will aim to bounce back and reignite their campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
